A navette is a particular type of ring that is shaped like a large marquise, but that has been set with a number of smaller stones instead of a single, large stone. The term itself is used to describe the shape filled by the gemstone or smaller gemstones. The term is thus used interchangeably to describe the contour of the stone as well as a ring that utilizes this shape. For example, a stone can be “marquise-shaped” or “navette” or the ring itself can be a “navette” style ring. Navette-shaped rings were popular in the 18th century and contained diamonds, enamel, and other elements represented by the styles and fashion of the time.
